COURTNEY BRYAN DEVON – Academy Administrator

Courtney Bryan Devon (they/them) is a black, queer, nonbinary performing artist, director-choreographer, activist, and educator. Through community activism, theatre, music, movement, and dance, Courtney creates revealing, reviving and revolutionary experiences rooted in facilitation, fellowship, and freedom.

An education and conservatory alumnus of Shakespeare & Company, Barrington Stage Company, a trained dancer, martial artist, and yogi, Courtney materializes through motion in tandem with their experience as a poet, actor, and three time Champion of the Massachusetts Poetry Out Loud State Competitions (‘13,’14,’16). Courtney’s core curiosities lie in language and the physical body, alchemizing into their passion for choreopoem.

Courtney cultivates an eclectic arts education that is continually reinvested into marginalized communities as a teaching artist and proudly serves as the Executive Director of Black Shakespeare Project, Community Engagement Director of No Exit Theatre Collective, a member of the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable, and multi-committee member of the Shakespeare Theatre Association.

Courtney is most enlivened in enriching and connecting communities through creativity, believing in the power of the arts and storytelling to facilitate environments of learning, healing, transformative justice, and radical joy.
