Amas provides an artistic home for writers, composers, and lyricists to create and develop new work, from first drafts to full-scale production.
The Amas Six O'Clock Musical Theatre Lab The Six O'Clock Musical Theatre Labs are a development series for writers, lyricists and composers to mount staged readings of their new musicals. New shows are presented for three consecutive evenings in hour-long concert versions. The lab series has presentations in the Fall and Spring.
Amas Workshop Program The Workshop Program gives composers and lyricists the opportunity to continue to work on a more polished and complete version of their new work. Developing a musical is a long and arduous process that requires much re-writing and adaptation. Our workshop program is an invaluable tool in assisting the artists-and their work-to reach a certain perfection level before they arrive at the Mainstage level where the critics await with their pencils sharpened.
Workshop Productions entail a two-week rehearsal period culminating in a series of performances using minimal costumes, lighting and sets. At this stage, the focus remains on the writing and the music.
Amas Mainstage Program Select musicals are given a full off-Off Broadway run of four weeks. The shows are fully produced, including sets, costumes, lights, and live music. Critics are invited to attend. These productions run under either an Equity Showcase or LOA contract. |
